WHEN it first came out, the NES Classic console flew off shelves faster than you could say Donkey Kong. Then, to make matters worse, Nintendo said they wouldn’t be making any more!

The Mario maker reversed that decision a little while ago and promised that the mini Nintendo Entertainment System would be heading back to shops this summer but didn’t offer any more detailed information – until now.

While the console is miniature, the hard-edged controller is just as big and uncomfortable as ever before

The all-in-one old school unit, complete with 30 classic games, will be available to buy again on June 29.

Demand for the console was so high the first time around that eBay sellers were flogging the console for 10 times its original price of £50 — but this time, Nintendo has promised there will be stock available in the UK for the rest of the year.

The in-demand device is a roughly half-sized replica of the original NES — but it’s an all-in one unit designed to connect to modern TVs via HDMI.

And rather than coming with a stack of cartridges for you to blow on, it comes with 30 games pre-installed, including the original Final Fantasy, arcade classics Donkey Kong and Galaga, Tecmo Bowl and the first three Mario Bros Games.

When the NES Classic Mini returns to shops, it should hang around for a little bit longer this time — so you won’t have to resort to eBay

However, not content with giving gamers what they want, Nintendo has also announced a version that you’ll have a much harder time getting your hands on.

On June 7, they are launching a special gold ‘Family Computer’ — the version of the console that first appeared in Japan in 1983, three full years before it morphed into the NES and shot to the top of every 80’s kid’s Christmas list.

Out are the 30 classic games the standard version comes with, and in are 20 manga games to celebrate the fiftieth birthday of Japan’s beloved Weekly Shonen Jump Manga.

It will only be sold in Japan.
