JAMIE CARRAGHER insists Arsenal are only getting worse under Arsene Wenger.
And the former Liverpool man has stuck by his comments last season when he branded the Gunners “cowards”.
Arsenal lost their north London derby against fierce rivals Tottenham at weekend 1-0.
But the lack of fight from most players was the source of most fans’ frustrations.
Arsenal are now eight points off the top four, and it seems they will be missing out on Champions League football for the second consecutive season.
But Carragher believes Arsenal’s problems will only continue to grow unless there are some major changes made, calling them an “embarrassment” and claiming they’re only “getting worse”.
Carragher said on Monday Night Football: “I have always questioned Arsenal’s mentality, but I have always thought they are good enough.
“I still question their mentality, but they are not good enough now, and that’s the big thing.
“Arsenal are actually getting worse. They’re not getting better.
“If you go back to the MNF we did, I think against Crystal Palace at the back end of last season, I called them cowards.

“Afterwards, when you calm down a little bit and reflect, maybe you think that was a bit strong.
“The stats back me up. 21 points from 26 away games is an embarrassment for a team that’s supposed to be one of the top teams in the country.

“I look at Wenger saying he couldn’t afford Jonny Evans, but could afford £50m strikers. It’s not about affording, he just doesn’t see it,
“I don’t think he has ever spent big on a defender. Why didn’t he go for Virgil van Dijk? Liverpool have the same problems, but as least Jurgen Klopp is trying to fix it with Van Dijk.”
